Vision
The organisation that stands for social justice and anti-discrimination in mental health.
A lot has been done recently with the first brave people speaking out in the media about their experiences of mental ill-health but we believe that these efforts need to be co-ordinated and organised into an effective lobbying organisation:
- We believe that there is a window of opportunity now, or a tipping-point to achieve a wide-spread change in public attitudes. The idea of equality for mental illness alongside physical illness will become common sense and “stand to reason”.
- Stand to Reason is for all. We will tackle stigma by engaging with grass roots activists and “hard-to-reach” members of the establishment alike. We think high achievers, leaders and people of influence from all sectors, including business, the professions and leading stakeholders need to join the campaign.
- Promoting recovery, dignity and achievement, Stand to Reason is run by and for people who have suffered mental distress in order to demonstrate the capacity and potential of our members, without any compromise in quality.
Stand to Reason will work to promote, and hopes to become a focus for, a multi-party anti-stigma agenda. Dovetailing and partnering with other third sector organisations and government agencies, we intend to build levels of co-operation similar to that achieved by mental health charities in response to the draft Mental Health Bill.
